APPEALS TIMETABLE 2018
If you have not been offered a place at St Michael’s Catholic Grammar School, the law entitles you to appeal against that decision to an Independent Appeal Panel. This panel is completely independent of the school and the Local Authority. The appeals are usually held at the school.
If you wish to appeal, please download an Appeal Form here. You should include any evidence or supporting material with your appeal form and you MUST give the grounds for your appeal at the time you lodge your appeal form. Your appeal form will not be accepted unless you state the grounds for your appeal. You may appeal for more than one school.
You are advised that appeals for Grammar Schools are different to non-selective schools. The panel’s role is to establish if there is sufficient third party evidence to persuade them that your son is of the standard for St Michael’s school. As a “super selective” Grammar School, the standard is the score of the last person to be offered a place in the cohort for that year group. If the panel do accept your evidence, they then go on to establish if your son’s prejudice in not being given a place is greater than the school’s own prejudice to education and resources case. You are recommended to read the appeals leaflet which you can download here.
The timetable for appeals is as follows:-
