Smiles and relief as students gain their Teacher Assessed Grades.
St Michael’s Year 11 students worked very hard in completing dozens of assessments earlier this year in order to be awarded their GCSE grades this week. The process was just like that for the A Levels: teachers were called upon to gather evidence of student performance and to determine the grades awarded.
GCSE is normally the first opportunity for a young person to prove themselves under exam conditions – and students have been denied that opportunity this year – although at St Michael’s, a large proportion of the assessments done were under exam conditions and so students can be confident that the grades achieved this week would be very similar to those they would have gained should the examinations have taken place.
The disruption to education over these last 18 months has been considerable: there have been lockdowns and also periods when we had to send all of our Year 11 home as a result of a Covid-19 outbreak. Given these unprecedented challenges to young people and schools, we are delighted that our students have remained focused throughout and that the futures they want for themselves remain within reach.
Well done to all – the vast majority of you have already registered for the Sixth Form at St Michael’s – we look forward to supporting you over the next two years to enable you to go onto the university of your choice and to pursue the future you want for yourselves.
