Luanda Project
As you may be aware, St Michael’s has a partnership with the Catholic parish of Luanda, in Kenya. Within this parish we have links with five projects, the St Joseph’s Rehabilitation Centre for Streetchildren, Ebukuya School for the Deaf, Ebukuya Primary School, Ebusiratsi Secondary School and Ebukhiliti Primary School. Last year was the first year of this partnership and we sent ten students and four members of staff to Luanda for two weeks to help in the schools and learn more about life in this area. We managed to raise £18,000. This money covered the cost of the project, including flights, accommodation, visas and food as well as resources for the projects and we were also able to give a £3000 donation between these five projects which has been spent on computers, books, stationery and improving facilities for living and learning. This year, we want to raise even more money to help our partnership progress. "As a fund raising event for the partnership, we are offering students in Year 7 the opportunity to participate in the Big Sleepover in the school hall. This event will be fully supervised by St Michael’s staff. There will be organised fun activities, karaoke and a film show. Each pupil must be sponsored and should raise a minumum of £20 each. There are rewards for the most funds raised! You may sponsor pupils on their sponsorship forms or online at our VirginMoney Giving website. Please remember to give the name of the girl you are sponsoring in the messages section though." This event took place on Friday 3rd February 2012 and raised about £2000. Congratulations to all who took part!
